The M1 Carbine is one of the most fascinating rifles in my opinion. It's smaller then the full size M1 Garand yet more complex. Because of the complexity of the front sight system, trigger mechanism and rear sight fixture I do charge slightly more to parkerize the little M1 Carbine. I do not do trigger work yet on the Carbine but do provide parkerizing, re-barreling and muzzle crowning. Please see my "Pricing" page for details.
In the photos on the right you will see, first, a Saginaw S'G' M1 Carbine in its original worn finish. The furniture was a bit dirty and dark. The metal finish almost rusty. In my parkerizing preparation I disassembled this rifle down to the last pin and spring. I removed the rear sight and thoroughly cleaned all of its components. During the parkerizing process I took care to move the rear sight apperture up and down so parkerizing could take place along the entire apperture rail. You can expect the same care with any rifle you send me. This rifle is in its finished state in the second set of photos. Notice I also cleaned the stock set and applied a coat of Fairtrimmers Military oX. You can actually see the grain in the wood now!
The third set of photos displays an Underwood M1 Carbine in its finished state. The same preparation was taken as with the S'G'. The rifle did not have the bayonet lug parkerized because I liked the original finish that it had retained. The rifle, again, is striking compared to the heavily patina'd/rusted piece I started with.
Parkerizing your M1 Carbine is a personal decision and not for everyone. Some will go to their graves having their rifle in original, however missing, finish. That's fine with me and I understand this point of view clearly. I too have several rifles I have kept original. If, however, you want a rifle that looks like the day it was issued and not the day it was removed from service then nothing can replicate that appearance except new parkerizing. I am happy to provide this service.
All rifles will be parkerized with the barrels on unless I am instructed to remove the barrel and keep it in the white. There is a small charge for this added service. I can also return you barrel's throat back to the white if you like.
